About Us

The Rotary Club of Austin-Oak Hill was chartered on the 21st of June 1982. Col. Pat Speir (a Past District Governor) was the primary founder of our club, with help from Past District Governor Dick Merrill and Virgil Waggoner (now a Past District Governor).
The main objective of Rotary is service - in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Some of our long-standing service projects are:
- Academic scholarships for graduating high school seniors
- Vocational scholarships
- Middle school essay contests
- Youth "Service Above Self" Award
- Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
- Sponsoring the Interact Club at Bowie High School
- Co-sponsoring the Rotaract Club at St. Edward's University
- Supporting the Austin Academy, an adult educational services agency
For a number of years we have partnered with two clubs in Mexico - Matamoros Sur & Monterrey Professional - to utilize the Rotary Foundation's matching grant process to accomplish worthy projects in both countries.
We have completed two phases one of The Trailhead Project which features an outdoor reading area with four benches and an outdoor instruction are under a 400 year old oak tree. The completed trail will lead from the Will Hampton Library to Dick Nichols Park.
We are always seeking prospective members who share our philosophy of community service. You are cordially invited to visit us at our regular Thursday noon meeting to learn more. You will be most welcome. We are the friendliest club in Austin & maybe the world!
